During his boxing career, Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali fought 61 fights, won 56 and lost five. He won gold as an amateur in the 1960 Rome Olympics. He scored 37 knockouts and 19 decisions; lost four decisions and one TKO. He was a force both inside and outside the ring. Ali boldly signed the WBA belt in gold Sharpie on the left side of the belt (grade 7). An LOA from PSA/DNA accompanies the belt (#3A59645) Letter states signature is a 10 but it has faded over time. This WBA belt is black leather trimmed in maroon. The gold-plated WBA “crown” bears the red and white WBA circular brand with WBA President Gilberto Mandoza signature, emblem (two boxers facing off, balanced atop the world), and slogan (Boxing as an International Sport). The insignia is topped with diamond and garnet rhinestones in the shape of a crown, with a singular diamond. To the left and right each of the WBA circular brand is a bas-relief boxer and glove. The “crown” shows evidence of wear as green corrosion can be found at the top and to the left. A smaller, gold insignia sits to the left and right of the center, large “crown.” The left is engraved with “Muhammad Ali.” The right is engraved with “World Champion.” These circular emblems are similarly crowned with diamond and garnet rhinestones. The belt fastens with a large Velcro patch on the tapered ends. A small, circular red and white WBA insignia written in Spanish (Asociacion Mundial De Boxeo) can be found on the right-hand belt end. The belt’s reverse is gray rabbit fur. The belt weighs over 20 lbs.
