Lot #2982: 1986 Tommy John/Don Baylor Game Used Signed & Inscribed New York Yankees White Home Jersey (John LOA, Henderson & JSA)

Description

Presented here is a New York Yankees home jersey worn by both Don Baylor and Tommy John during the 1986 season. Baylor was traded on March 28, 1986 to the Boston Red Sox for Mike Easler, and Tommy John signed with the Yankees as a free agent on May 2, 1986. John would post a record of 5-3 with an ERA of 2.93 and 28 strikeouts during the season. The presented jersey, worn by both men during the 1986 season, as was a common practice that teams recycled jerseys to other players, and is a seven-button white heavy mesh with navy pinstripes. The iconic interlocking “NY” Yankees logo appears in navy tackle twill on the left chest of the jersey. A black armband on the left sleeve was worn to commemorate the death of Roger Maris, who passed away on December 14, 1985. A Wilson manufacturer’s tag with a size “46” flag appears on the left front tail of the jersey. A white swatch labeled “Baylor 86 2” is attached to the inside collar. The number “25” appears on the back of the jersey in navy tackle twill. Tommy John signed and inscribed “Best Wishes” and the number “25” with a black marker on the left front tail of the jersey with a black marker. The signature and inscription are clear and bold. The jersey displays light game use and contains faint sweat stains on the inside collar and fading of the tackle twill on the interlocking “NY” logo on the chest, two small black stains on the rear tail, and a stain on the left sleeve. The game used New York Yankees home jersey worn by both Don Baylor and Tommy John during the 1986 season and signed and inscribed by John comes with an LOA from JSA for the signature and an LOA from noted game used baseball jersey expert William Henderson.
