Lot #3625: 1873 President Ulysses S Grant Signed Document (Beckett)

Description

Presented here is a 20 x 15-inch Presidential appointment from 1873 signed by President Ulysses S. Grant. The 18th President of the United States and famed Civil War general Ulysses S. Grant has signed this sepia photograph. Grant was the Commanding General of the United States Army from March 9, 1864 until 1869, when the unassuming battlefield genius ascended to the highest office in the land. Grant led the Union army to several decisive victories in the Civil War, including in the Overland Campaign and the pivotal Vicksburg Campaign. As President, Grant rebuilt the United States economy after the disastrous Johnson presidency and helped reunite the United States after the schism of the Civil War. Today, Grant’s presidency is regarded by experts and pundits as one of the most successful of the 19th century.

Presented here is a 20 x 15-inch Presidential appointment signed by Secretary of the Treasury William A. Richardson and President Ulysses S. Grant. The appointment was conferred upon a Henry Harnden for the Office of Collector for the Internal Revenue Service for the Second District of Wisconsin. The appointment was signed on March 25th, 1873 and was signed by both the Secretary of the Treasury and President Grant in black and blue ink, respectively. The appointment contains some toning on the edges, elements of both edging and early cornering, and the signatures are bold and clear. The 1873 Presidential appointment signed by President Ulysses S. Grant is accompanied by an LOA from Beckett Authentication for the signatures.
