Lot #926: Collection of 1996 Daisy Berkowitz Handwritten & Signed Resignation Letter To Quit Marilyn Manson Band (Family LOA & JSA)

Description

In 1996, midway through Marilyn Manson’s recording of their second album, principal guitarist, composer, and founding member of the band Scott Putesky (a.k.a. Daisy Berkowitz) abruptly announced his resignation from the pioneering band. Citing reasons for his departure as “personal frustrations w/ band members”, “lack of writing cooperation”, and “lack of financial compensation for business, blah blah and blah…” among other things, Berkowitz’s departure had a big impact on Marilyn Manson. Offered here is a collection of Berkowitz’s handwritten resignation letters and documents, including a page where Berkowitz writes about his departure from the band from the perspective of a father telling his children about a divorce. Despite the acrimonious circumstances of his resignation from the band, Berkowitz makes sure to keep things diplomatic, stating that he “will continue to make myself available to assist [Marilyn Manson] in any healthy capacity.”

Berkowitz went on to enjoy a successful career as a musical artist until his death in 2017, playing with bands such as Jack Off Jill and Three Ton Gate under various artistic nom de plumes. This collection of documents include four pages of handwritten content, as well as a typed letter and a fax cover sheet. Berkowitz has signed the handwritten pages twice as “Daisy”. Berkowitz’s name came as a portmanteau of Daisy Duke and David “Son of Sam” Berkowitz, following the Marilyn Manson band strategy of combining the names of sex symbols with those of serial killers. These documents are accompanied by a LOA from Berkowitz’s family and 2 LOAs from JSA.
