Lot #17: 1967 Helms Athletic Foundation Athlete of the Month (February) Presented To Lew Alcindor (Abdul-Jabbar LOA)

Description

The Hall of Fame center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was presented with this Helms Athletic Foundation Athlete of the Month trophy for the month of February 1967. Abdul-Jabbar was in his first season with the UCLA varsity team in 1966-67, leading UCLA to a perfect 7-0 record in February. Overall, the Bruins finished 30-0 in Abdul-Jabbar’s sophomore season, winning the first of their three straight NCAA titles with a 79-64 victory over the Dayton Flyers in the NCAA title game. This offered Helms Athletic Foundation Trophy consists of a bronze Helms Foundation crest mounted on a clear 5 x 3-inch base. One side of the crest features the Helms Foundation logo etched in high relief, while the reverse side is etched with “Awarded to Lew Alcindor In Recognition of Athlete Of Month February 1967”. Etched in high relief around the edges of the crest is “Victory Is A Worthy Result For Which To Strive Fairly”. The remnants of an adhesive is present on the bottom of the trophy. This item comes with a LOA signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar himself.
