Lot #8: 1955-57 Ted Williams Game Used and Signed Louisville Slugger W183 Model Bat (PSA/DNA GU 9, JSA & Beckett)

Description

When Ted Williams announced his retirement after the 1954 season, American League pitchers released a collective sigh of relief. But when spring rolled around, Ted Williams was uneasy - he knew he had to get back in uniform. After missing the first month, Williams tore through the American League at a .356 clip.

In the first three years of this “second phase” of his Hall of Fame career, Ted averaged 30 home runs and 84 runs batted in, and won another batting title in 1957 with a .388 average. Used during his 1955-1957 seasons, Ted’s W183 model bat is un-cracked and shows excellent use. Several ball marks are visible on the right, left and back barrel and a light coat of pine tar still clings to its handle. The model number “W183” is stamped into the handle. This gamer is completed with a bold Ted Williams signature in black marker on the barrel just below the stamped signature. The bat comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (1B14521) for the game use and has been graded a solid GU 9 and a full LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A82351) for the signature.
