Lot #16: 1962 Topps #200 Mickey Mantle – PSA MINT 9

Description

Graded MINT 9 by PSA. Hall of Famer. Among more than 4,500 examples recorded in PSA's census reporting, just one, single specimen has achieved a higher tier. In 1962, Topps issued the most fragile cards imaginable. Until then, images on the company's card products had been, except for the lower corners on 1953's and the upper borders on '54's, surrounded by a very forgiving white border that helped to hide little "dings," touches and imperfections. When the 1962 cards' wood-grained borders were originally conceived, they must have seemed like a nice departure from the norm. Who could have imagined how sophisticated and discriminating the collectors of the future would be? The offered card is an outstanding example of the most important piece from the condition-sensitive 1962 Topps set. Free of the series' typical unsightly chipping, this card's very fresh, original cut allows virtually no evidence that the collectible was produced by mortals. A crisp image that is second to none and razor sharp corners put the finishing touches on this much-coveted Mantle card. Unimprovable Mint condition.
