For the first quarter of the 20th century, the Chicago Cubs were one of the most decorated franchises in the National League. Entering the 1944 season, the Cubs had won two World Series titles (1907 and 1908) and 15 National League pennants, the last one coming in 1938. To proudly display their accomplishments, the Cubs had this offered flag flown proudly at the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field.

Measuring approximately 8 ¾ x 5 ½ feet, this beautifully designed flag is navy blue and features “CHICAGO” in bold white lettering across the top and "CUBS" on the bottom. The Cubs red “C” is centered on a white diamond with two navy stars on the horizontal tips, signifying the two World Series titles. Spaced out on each side of the white diamond are 15 red stars that symbolizes the National League pennants that were won. Based on the stars on the flag for the National League pennants, this flag was designed in 1938 after the Cubs previous pennant-winning team and flew at Wrigley until the end of the 1945 season, the 74th season in Cubs’ history and 30th at Wrigley Field. A new flag design was needed for the 1946 season when Cubs added their 16th National League pennant.

This offered flag is completely intact and with the constant winds at the stadium coming off of Lake Michigan, this is some fraying on the edges and some on the lettering. A wonderful piece of baseball and Chicago Cubs history offered in this lot and this item comes with a LOA from MEARS, authenticating that this flag was flown at Wrigley field between 1938-1945.
