Lot #240: 2011 Alex Rodriguez Game Used & Signed Nike Batting Gloves Used For Career Home Run #614 (MLB Authenticated & Rodriguez LOA)

Description

Vaunted New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez wore this pair of Nike batting gloves when he hit his 614th career home run on April 2, 2011, during a 10-6 Yankees win over the Detroit Tigers at the new Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. A-Rod hit the two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning off Tigers pitcher Brad Penny.  It was Rodriguez’s first HR of the 2011 season. That season, Rodriguez finished with a .276 batting average, with 16 home runs and 21 doubles. At the conclusion of his 22-year Major League Baseball career in 2016, Rodriguez retired with 696 career home runs, fourth all-time behind Barry Bonds (762), Hank Aaron (755) and Babe Ruth (714).

The Yankees slugger has signed the palm of each glove in black marker and inscribed “HR# 4-2-11” beneath his signature in black marker on the palm of each glove.  The white leather and mesh Nike batting glove have a black Nike swoosh logo on the back of each glove, along with a logo for “Diamond Elite” on the top side of each wristband.  The bottom side of each wristband has the number “13” embroidered in blue on a white cloth patch with silver Nike swoosh logo at the bottom. This pair of batting gloves come MLB Authenticated holograms (FJ483089 & FJ483090), which dates the pair to the April 2, 2011 game (“presented by Rob Cucuzza New York Yankee equipment mgr.”) and a signed LOA from Rodriguez.
