Lot #27: 1971 Fergie Jenkins Game Used & Signed Rawlings TG12X Model Glove - Cy Young Season (PSA/DNA & Beckett)

In his prime, it appeared that there was nothing Ferguson Jenkins couldn’t do. From 1965 to 1983 he was one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball, a seven-time 20 game winner despite playing for mostly second-division clubs. He was one of the few players to lead both the National and American Leagues in both wins and complete games in a season and to this day remains one of the most formidable men to ever wear a Chicago Cubs uniform. Out of his entire 19-year career, 1971 stands out as his best. Hurling for the 3rd place Cubs, Fergie won a league-leading 24 games and topped all NL pitchers with 30 complete games and 325 innings pitched. This tremendous effort earned him the coveted Cy Young Award. The Cubs legend wore this glove during that 1971 Cy Young season.

The Rawlings TG12X model glove show extensive use. In 1971 this was most likely the most advanced glove available, featuring the “Wing Tip” back with “FastBack” wrist enclosure, sixth finger “Trap-Eze” design and the famous “Edge-U-Cated Heel.” The deer skin palm shows good wear as does the face of the webbing and body. The red Rawlings label is worn but intact on the outside base of the thumb. “Bopper” has been handwritten in faded black marker on the back of the glove. To complete this 1971 Cy Young year gamer, Fergie has signed the outside of the thumb in black marker, adding “HOF 91 Gamer” and “Cy Young” on the back of the middle finger. The glove comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1G00557) for the game use and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A56152) for the signature.
