Lot #644: 1961-63 Stan Musial Game Ready Twice Signed & Inscribed Hillerich & Bradsby M159 Model Bat Gifted To Gene Autry (PSA/DNA, Beckett & Autry LOA)

Description

In 1961, Stan Musial's 20th season in the big leagues, he hit .288 and followed it up in 1962 with .330, third best in the league. At 41 he also was the oldest man to hit three homers in one game. 1963 was his final season and upon retiring, Stan Musial held a staggering 17 MLB records, including most career extra base hits. It’s no wonder that Los Angeles Angels owner, actor and memorabilia collector Gene Autrey wanted one of Stan’s bats in his collection.

Musial’s 1961-1963 era Hillerich & Bradsby M159 model bat is un-cracked and has been made game ready. The barrel shows green bat rack paint streaks and Stan the Man’s iconic number “6” has been handwritten on both ends. Additionally, the model number “M159” is stamped into the knob and the weight handwritten in pencil. The Hall of Famer has signed the bat not once, but twice, the second of which shows Stan’s playful nature, writing, “To Gene Best Wishes. If the Angels need me please call. Stan Musial.” The Gene in the inscription is of course, cowboy actor Gene Autry, owner of the Angels. A great bat combining the best of Hollywood and Baseball. This bat comes from the collection of the late Gene Autry and a LOA from his widow Jacqueline Autry will accompany this bat. There is a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B17857) for being made game ready and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A52531) for the signature.
