Lot #59: 1972 Bob Gibson Game Used & Signed St. Louis Cardinals Road Jersey (MEARS A8 & Beckett)

Description

Hall of Famer Bob Gibson entered the 1972 season at 37 years of age, two Cy Young Awards and was the 1968 National League MVP. Gibson also led the St. Louis Cardinals to three World Series appearances, winning two of them in 1964 and 1967. Gibson continued his dominance of the National League when he finished the 1972 season with a 19-11 record, a miniscule 2.46 ERA and 208 strikeouts, all in 278 innings pitched.

Offered is a chance to own a Bob Gibson game used St. Louis Cardinals road gray jersey that he wore during the 1972 season. This classic pullover jersey features the iconic “Cardinals” with the bat and two cardinals perched on each end sewn on in red and yellow chenille stitching. Gibson’s number “45” is sewn on the front in red and navy tackle twill. The collar is rounded with navy, white and red lining and the sleeve ends are capped in a ribbed material in a red, white and navy pattern. The Rawlings size 44 tag with the “SET 1 #8P 1972” flag is sewn on the inside back left tail. The back of this jersey has “45” sewn on in it’s original red and navy tackle twill with “GIBSON” sewn on in a restored period-correct red and navy tackle twill. Gibson has signed his name blue marker on the inside back collar, adding to this already outstanding gamer. This jersey displays heavy game use with fading of the gray material and the name restored on the back. This item comes with a LOA from MEARS (316443) for the game use and has been graded a solid GU 8. Additionally, there is a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A25594) for the signature.
