Lot #110: 1978 Eddie Murray Game Used Baltimore Orioles Home Jersey (Sports Investors Authentication)

Description

Following up his 1977 American League Rookie of the Year campaign, Hall of Famer Eddie Murray continued his emergence with the Baltimore Orioles in 1978 as the switch-hitting slugger matched his home run total from 1977 with 27, increased his RBI total from 88 to 95 and improved on an already solid batting average from .283 to .285. Murray also made the first of his eight All-Star selections in 1978 and helped lead the Orioles to a 90-71 record.

Murray wore this Baltimore Orioles home button-down jersey during the 1978 season. This jersey features “Orioles” and his number “33” sewn on the front in orange and black tackle twill. The Rawlings size 40 tag, along with the “SET 1 1978” and “1 INCH EXTRA LENGTH” flags are sewn on the inside front right tail. The collar is bordered with a black and orange ribbed material and the sleeves have a black, white and orange ribbed material on the ends. The back of the jersey has “MURRAY” sewn on in orange and black tackle twill on a matching white nameplate and his number “33”, which is sewn on the same orange and black tackle twill material.

The jersey displays moderate game use and all of the letters and numbers are original without alteration. The jersey displays toning or darkening due to repeated washings and the lettering/numbering are wrinkled appropriately with some light fraying on the edges. There are reddish dirt stains ground in at the waistline on both the front and back. A terrific early-career gamer from one of the best switch-hitters in baseball history and this jersey, based on the original lettering or numbering, does not appear to have been recycled to the minor leagues, making this an original, un-altered jersey. This comes with a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication (190928G1) for the game use.
