Lot #60: 2005 Chicago White Sox World Series Championship Player Ring - Vizcaino (PSA/DNA)

Description

The Chicago White Sox ended one of the most painful World Series droughts in baseball history in 2005, extinguishing 88 years of anguish with a dominant four game sweep of the National League’s Houston Astros. The White Sox, one of the oldest teams in baseball, won only two American League pennants after their World Series victory of 1917, one in 1919, and one in 1959. The 1919 Sox, led by the humble superstar Joe Jackson, fell victim to the “Black Sox Scandal” that ended with the permanent banishment of eight of their members from baseball forever.

The Ozzie Guillen-led Pale Hose lost just one game in the postseason that year as they dismantled the Red Sox in the ALDS (3-0), Angels in the ALCS (4-1) and Astros in the World Series (4-0). Perhaps the most memorable Fall Classic moments were Scott Podsednik's walk-off HR to end Game 3 and the record-breaking 14-inning, 6-hour duration of Game 4! Manufactured by Jostens, this 14K-gold ring was presented to pitcher Luis Vizcaino. The front of the ring features a diamond-encrusted "SOX" logo atop a black stone encircled by two tiers of diamonds – 58 in total. One shank has “VIZCAINO 99-63”, the MLB logo and “51” in raised relief, while the opposite shank has “WORLD CHAMPIONS 2005 11-1”. A “©JOSTENS 14K” is engraved on the inner band. The ring weighs approximately 41.1 grams and is a size 11. This comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AH09008).
