Lot #1445: 1977 New York Yankees World Series Replica 17" Commissioners Trophy From "The Bronx is Burning" TV Series

Description

The 2007 eight-part series The Bronx is Burning, produced by ESPN, was based on the best-selling book Ladies and Gentlemen, the Bronx is Burning by Jonathan Mahler.  This series told the story of the Yankees' rowdy 1977 season set against the larger backdrop of New York City's social and political disorder at the time. Actor Daniel Sunjata played the newly acquired Yankees outfielder Reggie Jackson, whose feud with team captain Thurman Munson fueled much of the internal conflict on the club at the time.  Sourced from a larger group of pros from the Series, this lot consists of the Replica New York Yankees World Series Trophy used in the filing. The trophy stands 17 inches tall and 8 inches in circumference and is constructed of lightweight metal, similar to the one issued that year. As evidenced by several characteristics however, it is not an exact reproduction of the actual trophy issued that year.  The lettering along the base is printed on paper that has been affixed with tape.  Very Good condition overall, with scuffs and modest oxidation to the top portion of the base.  The trophy does not come accompanied by documentation by through researching the sale history we are able to conclude that this is the trophy that was initially sold with the group of props used for the filming of the Television Series.
