Lot #11: 1983 Steve Carlton Game Used & Signed Philadelphia Phillies Nike Cleats Used For 300th Win (Carlton COA)

Description

There are celebrated milestones in baseball for hitters – 3,000 hits and 500 home runs. For pitchers, 300 wins is not only a culmination of great pitching, but also longevity. Every pitcher with 300 wins, with the exception of Roger Clemens, has earned a spot in the Hall of Fame. Only 24 pitchers have ever reached 300-win threshold and with the increase in the use relievers and starting pitchers throwing less innings, this may be the only 24 pitchers in this exclusive club for years to come.

Hall of Famer Steve Carlton, one of the most dominating left-handers in baseball history, reached his 300-win milestone on September 23rd, 1983 when he defeated his former team, the St. Louis Cardinals, pitching eight innings, allowing only two earned runs on seven hits, while striking out 12 in the victory.

These Nike cleats were worn by Carlton during his historic and milestone 300th career win. These cleats are an approximate size 10 and show outstanding game use. The wear on the left toe is more prevalent, which is consistent for a left-handed pitcher. The tongues of these shoes are foam padded and the red dyed leather has the white Nike swoosh with heel risers. The soles have high impact plastic with six stainless steel cleats per shoe. There are red dye abrasion marks on the white panels on the heels and dirt marks on the metal cleats and red dye marks on the white Nike swooshes. Carlton has signed these cleats on the outside, each on the white Nike swoosh and added the inscription “#300”. These cleats come with a photocopy of a COA from Steve Carlton signed to "Barry" as part of the Barry Halper Collection from Sotheby's 1999 Auction authenticating the use of these cleats for his 300th win.
