As he continues to add goals to his already impressive resume´, Ovechkin, the three-time Hart Trophy winner as the NHL MVP, scored his most memorable goal during the January 16th, 2006 game against the Phoenix Coyotes in Arizona. A simply stunning goal, Ovechkin, with the Capitals already in front 5-1, found the loose puck at the red line at the boards between the two teams’ benches, raced down the right side and was met by Coyotes defender Paul Mara at the top of the left faceoff circle. At full speed, Ovechkin curled the puck around Mara, who nudged Ovechkin off his feet and while falling to this ice and sliding on his back, he reached with full extension and flung the puck past the diving Coyotes’ goalie Brian Boucher and into the net.

A simply remarkable goal that was witnessed by the greatest hockey player of all-time Wayne Gretzky, who was coaching Phoenix that season. All Gretzky could do was look up at the jumbotron in amazement at what was simply one of the greatest goals ever scored in NHL history. This offered Washington Capitals road white jersey was worn by Ovechkin while scoring this amazing and unforgettable goal.
