Lot #66: 1955 All-Star Game Willie Mays Game Used H&B Louisville Slugger S2 Model Bat (PSA/DNA GU 10)

Description

This incredible bat was used by Hall of Fame centerfielder Willie Mays for the 1955 All-Star Game at Milwaukee’s County Stadium. Mays had just begun to enter his devastating prime in the mid-1950’s, winning the National League MVP and batting title in 1954 with a Triple Crown slash line of .345/41/110. In 1955, Mays set a then career-high with 51 homers, along with a Major League best 13 triples, 127 RBI, and a batting average of .319. Mays continued to excel until the end of his career, a year-and-a-half spell with the New York Mets in 1972 and 1973. Mays was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979.

Mays made his second of his record 24 All-Star Game selections in 1955 shockingly as a reserve. The American League jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and the National League began to chip away, scoring two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth inning to tie the game. Mays entered the game at center field the top of the sixth inning for Duke Snider and he promptly went 2-for-3 with two runs scored as helped the Senior Circuit erase the early deficit. Stan Musial’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the 12th inning won the game for the National League.

This Offered Hillerich & Bradsby S2 model bat displays light to moderate game use and is un-cracked. “ALL STAR GAME MAYS MILWAUKEE 1955” is prominently stamped on the barrel, which shows some ball marks and black ink transfers on the back barrel. “S2” is stamped on the knob and the bat displays a golden hue. A tremendous opportunity to own one of the earliest Willie Mays game used bats. This comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B19200) who have graded this historic bat its highest grade of GU 10.
