Lot #13: 1960 Harmon Killebrew Game Used & Signed Washington Senators Home Uniform: Jersey, Cap & Photo Matched Pants-Final Year of Senators! (MEARS A10, Sports Investors Authentication & Beckett)

Description

Still the Minnesota Twins all-time leader in home runs (559), RBI (1,540), bases on balls (1,505), strikeouts (1,629) and games played (2,329), the late-great Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew might just be the all-time face of the franchise and that includes the Twins being the Washington Senators for the team’s first 60 years. Killebrew started off as a Washington Senator during his first few seasons, appearing in 113 games through his first five seasons before establishing himself in 1959. Killebrew, in what would be his second full season of 1960 where he appeared in 124 games, hit 31 home runs, drove in 80, while batting a respectable .276 in the nation’s capital.

Offered here is a full uniform – jersey, pants and cap that was worn by “Killer” during his 1960 season with the Senators – the final season the Senators were in Washington before they relocated to Minnesota. The cream-colored with navy pinstriped jersey and pants are made of flannel with the button-down Wilson size 46 jersey featuring “Senators” and a paraph across the front in sewn-on navy and red tackle twill. The Wilson size 46 tag, along with a white felt patch that has “1960” in black are sewn on the front left tail. The inside collar has a white felt patch with “Killebrew” embroidered in black. The left sleeve has a circular Senators’ logo patch and the back has Killebrew’s number “3” sewn on in navy and red tackle twill. All of the letters, numbers, patches and tagging are original to the jersey and Killebrew has added his signatures on the inside back collar below his name patch in blue marker. The jersey displays heavy game use with consistent wear and some stains.

The matching cream-colored pinstriped pants were also manufactured by Wilson and have a size 36 waist. The Wilson tag, along with the white felt patch with “Killebrew 1960” embroidered in black are sewn on the inside waist band. These flannel pants display heavy game wear with faded dirt stains on the upper right and left knees, upper right leg, front waistline and on the back waistline. Other than the dirt stains, the pants are in good condition with no repair marks or damage. These pants have been photo matched by Sports Investors Authentication (200326D4) to images from the 1960 season. The last item in this lot is Killebrew’s navy Senators’ cap. This wool cap has “W” embroidered in the front in red and a green underside brim. The brim shows heavy wear with warping and cracking. The hat was manufactured by Tim McAuliffe Inc. of Boston Mass and a “KM PRO CAP” stamp is on the off-white leather inside sweatband. The inner sweatband shows heavy wear with cracking and sweat stains. Killebrew’s number “3” is handwritten in black marker on the underside brim and Killebrew signed his name below his number, also in black marker. This uniform set comes with a LOA from MEARS (316482) for the game use and has been given its highest possible grade of A10. Additionally, there are individual LOAs from Beckett Authentication for Killebrew’s signatures on the jersey and the cap.
