Lot #100: 1997 Upper Deck UD3 “Season Ticket” #MJ Michael Jordan Signed Card - BGS MINT 9/BGS 10

Description

Encapsulated and graded MINT 9 by BGS, with signature graded "10" by Beckett. Hall of Famer. Among a total of 21 copies recorded in BGS's census reporting, not a single example has achieved a higher grade. Offered here is arguably one of the best, and most rare, Michael Jordan autographed collectibles of the 1990s. As a point of reference on value, Goldin Auctions recently sold a lesser-condition example of this card in the company's 2020 Late Summer Auction for nearly $95,000 (Lot #25).

The unique abilities of Michael Jordan have inspired awe and incredulity for years among fans and commentators. But perhaps even more significant is the vast respect the incomparable star was afforded by his competitors. Magic Johnson once said, "There's Michael Jordan and then there is the rest of us." Dwyane Wade has observed, "Everything he did was groundbreaking. He did it with so much flair and so much pizazz that even today people are still trying to be like Mike." "He's amazing," Dwight Howard has said. "He's one of the reasons why we played basketball. He inspired us to do great things." Perhaps summarizing his peers' feelings in the most succinct manner, Larry Bird noted that the player was, "God disguised as Michael Jordan." Such a universally well-regarded paragon merits the tribute of the collecting hobby's finest artifacts, a splendid example of which is offered here. Michael Jordan has penned a bold and dominating, blue ink signature on the obverse of this creatively styled, ultra-premium insert collectible. A congratulatory statement on the card's back attests to the authenticity of the signature, and serves as Upper Deck’s COA. Mint condition.
