Lot #68: 1982 Wade Boggs Game Used Boston Red Sox Jersey - Rookie Season

Description

With 3,010 career hits and a lifetime .328 BA over 18 seasons, Wade Boggs was simply one of the greatest hitters of his generation. Boggs made his MLB debut in 1982, hitting a lofty .349 in 104 games with the Boston Red Sox. In only 338 at bats, Boggs collected five homers, 44 RBI, and 35 walks against only 21 strikeouts for a rapidly improving Red Sox nine. Boggs’ emergence with the Red Sox allowed them to part ways with Carney Lansford, who was traded following the 1982 season to the Oakland A’s for slugger Tony Armas.

Offered here is this classic gray Boston Red Sox button-down road jersey, a 1982 edition worn by Boggs during his rookie season and made by Wilson. This jersey features “BOS TON” arched across the front in sewn-on navy tackle twill. The spacing of the “BOS” and “TON” is style on Red Sox road jerseys worn by the team from 1979 through 1983. Boggs’ number “26” is sewn on the back of this jersey in block style navy tackle twill. A Wilson size “42” manufacturer’s tag is stitched to the front left tail, above a gray strip tag with “82” stitched in black indicating the year. The inner placket is lined with a cream-colored soft material for player comfort. The jersey displays moderate game use with some small dirt stains both on the outside and on the inner placket. This is a great early-career gamer from one of the best pure hitters baseball has ever seen and comes with a LOA from noted game used baseball jersey expert William Henderson.
