Lot #67: 1982 Tom Seaver Game Used Cincinnati Reds Home Jersey

Description

Hall of Fame pitcher and the late Tom Seaver spent his final season with the Cincinnati Reds in 1982 where he made 21 starts, pitching in 111.1 innings. Seaver was famously traded by the New York Mets in 1977 to Cincinnati in what would be known as the “Midnight Massacre” that ultimately set the Mets’ franchise back several years. Seaver would return to the Mets in 1983 and finished out his career pitching for both the Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox from 1984-1986 and when he was enshrined in Cooperstown in 1992, he had the highest percentage of votes (98.8%) earned until Ken Griffey, Jr. was inducted in 2016 at 99.3%.

Offered here is one of the jerseys worn by Seaver during the 1982 season. This home white pullover jersey was manufactured by Rawlings and is a size 46. The Reds wishbone “C” logo is sewn on the upper left chest in red and white tackle twill, with Seaver’s number “41” sewn on the upper right chest in red tackle twill. The red Rawlings tag is sewn on the inside front left tail and has a “SET 1 1982” flag attached. The V-neck collar has red/white/red stripes and the sleeve ends are bordered in red and white stripes. The back of this jersey has “SEAVER” and “41” sewn on in red tackle twill. The jersey is in good condition with definite signs of wash and wear with all of the letters and numbers original to the jersey. This jersey was clearly pulled from service after the 1982 season and was not used for minor league or spring training use. A great gamer from one of baseball’s all-time great pitchers in his last season with the Reds. This jersey comes with a LOA from noted baseball game used jersey expert William Henderson.
