Lot #40: 1927 Babe Ruth Signed 26.5 x 36" Framed "Training In Hollywood" Photo Collage - Featuring 5 Babe Ruth Single Signed Photos (PSA/DNA & JSA)

Description

We all know what the 1927 baseball season meant for Babe Ruth and the New York Yankees. They scorched the American League to the tune of 110 regular season wins, then for good measure the Murderer’s Row Yankees swept the light hitting Pittsburgh Pirates in four games. Legendary stories abound how the Yankees batting practice before Game 1 rattled the Pirates, who watched slugger after slugger hit towering blasts into the seats. In preparation for his monstrous and historic season, Babe Ruth enjoyed the warm weather of Hollywood, California to get ready for the upcoming 1927 season.

Presented here is an extremely incredible collection of 7 x 9-inch photographs that have been matted in a 26 ½ x 36-inch framed display (we believe these are all 8x10 photos based on the way the mat has been cut.) These photos were all shot while Babe was in Hollywood filming “The Babe Comes Home” – a silent movie distributed by First National Pictures and released on May 22, 1927. The photos show Ruth dressed in a long sleeve shirt and white pants. Two of the photos depict Ruth with boxing gloves and “sparring” with his long time trainer Artie McGovern which he has been seen with on numerous other photos through out the 1920's. While two other photos show Ruth laying on a table with Artie stretching him out. The last photo shows Ruth wearing gloves in front of a wall training. The last referenced photo has some creases and chipping in the lower right corner. All the other photos show in near perfect condition. At the bottom center is a rectangle piece that has written in black “Babe Ruth training in Hollywood, Calif. 1927”. The matting is an off-white color with a black border and black frame. Due to the rarity of this piece, something of which we have never seen before, all five photos have been left in tack and decided not to broken up individually. All five photographs pictured have been signed by Ruth with his distinctive and highly sought-after signature in black ink with his famous and early signature in quotation marks. Each photo clearly grades a 9-10 in strength and with one photo grading to be a 7-8. That’s five Babe Ruth signatures on the same piece! Each of Ruth’s signatures comes with an individual LOA from PSA/DNA (AH05025, AH05027, AH05028, AH05030 & AH05308), along with a single LOA from JSA (BB74477) authenticating each of the five signatures.
