Lot #57: 1966 Don Drysdale Game Used Los Angeles Dodgers Road Jersey (SGC EX/VG)

Description

One of the most imposing lefty-righty duo of pitchers ever to join forces in the majors was that of Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale. Both men began their careers in Brooklyn, but it was under the California sun that they blossomed into perennial 20-game winners for the Dodgers. While Koufax was fast, Don Drysdale was fast AND mean, unafraid of plunking a batter if he deemed it necessary. Drysdale was also the more outgoing of the two, showing up on countless TV talk shows and turning in an unforgettable guest appearance on The Brady Bunch. In short, Don Drysdale was the face of the first generation of West Coast Dodgers teams.

In 1966, Big Don won 13 games as the Dodgers won their second consecutive pennant. During road games that summer Big Don donned this grey flannel jersey. The front has “Los Angeles” in Dodgers blue felt script above Drysdale’s feared number “53” in technicolor red. The lower left front tail has the Rawlings size 46 label with “Drysdale 66” chain stitched in blue below. Cleaning instructions are sewn below that, and a white hand tag with “SET 1 1966” affixed. The back has Big Don’s number “53” again, this time in Dodgers blue. The jersey shows moderate to heavy game use, with overall toning and light staining throughout. There is some pulls and nips taken out of the numbers on both the front and back along with several clubhouse repairs to the grey flannel body. The second to the top button is missing but the remaining six are present. An outstanding jersey worn by Hall of Famer Don Drysdale from the last of the pennant winning Dodgers teams he starred on. This jersey comes with a detailed booklet from SGC for the game use and have given this jersey an EXCELLENT/VERY GOOD (VG) grade.
