Lot #3171: 1998 Mark McGwire Signed, Inscribed & Game Used ONL Coleman Baseball - Home Run #50 From Third Consecutive 50 Home Run Season With Ticket Stub (JSA & Player Authenticated)

Description

Mark McGwire hit an almost inconceivable amount of home runs in 1998, reaching the 50-home run mark for the third of four consecutive seasons. McGwire hit this ball for number 50 in St. Louis’ 2-0 road win over the New York Mets on August 20th, 1998, in the first game of a double-header. This was the 437th homer of McGwire’s career. McGwire took Willie Blair deep for the milestone homer. “Big Mac” finished the season with a then-MLB record 70 homers. McGwire has signed the sweet spot of this Official National League Leonard S. Coleman baseball in black pen, inscribing “STL 25” next to his signature and “DJ #34 / 50 - 50 - 50 / 8-20-98” on the panel north of the sweet spot. Also included in this lot is a ticket stub to a Mets and Cardinals double-header on August 20th, 1998. McGwire homered in both games of the double-header, taking not only Willie Blair deep for number 50 on the season in the first game, but then victimized Rick Reed for homer number 51 in the second game. McGwire’s signature on the baseball is authenticated by JSA, and the ball also comes with player authentication.
