April 5th Auction

Lot #3: Exceptional Babe Ruth Single-Signed American League Baseball with Mint Signature (PSA and JSA)

From 1920 to his death in 1948, no athlete in the world was more recognizable than Babe Ruth. Where ever he went - theaters, restaurants, train stations - the great man was inundated with requests for his autograph. While many athletes today look at signing an autograph as a chore and bother, Ruth felt otherwise. To him, his flawless script on a ball or piece of paper was the least he could do to make a fan happy or bring a smile to a little boy’s face. To him, it just was part of being Babe Ruth. The legend of The Babe, which has only grown over the years, has made a Babe Ruth signed baseball the penultimate sports collectible. This is one of the finest examples you will ever see. This particular Ruth baseball has not seen the hobby in decades as it has been in a single collectors hands for many years. It is ‘fresh to the hobby’. Official American League baseball (Harridge) has been magnificently signed on the sweet spot in bold blue fountain pen by Babe Ruth. The signature is incredibly bold and strong from the start of the ‘B’ in Babe right thru the ‘h’ in Ruth. You will be hard pressed to ever find an equal or stronger signature of Ruth on the sweet spot of an official A.L. Ball, and this includes the famous ‘PSA/DNA 9.5’ that sold last year for $388,000. The baseball is slightly yellow from a very light coat of shellack. The ink on the “American League” and “Reach” are bold. There are 2 very small scuffs on the baseball. This ball needs to be seen to be fully appreciated and we welcome you to contact our office for a private showing prior to auction close. Ball comes with full letters of authenticity from both PSA/DNA and JSA.
