American statesman and the third President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, has signed this land grant document dating to his time as the governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Jefferson held this office as the second governor from 1779 through June of 1781. This land grant document was signed on the first of March, shortly after Benedict Arnold’s Raid on Richmond in early January of the same year. This land grant issues 99 acres of territory in Virginia to James Dillard, who paid the sum of 10 shillings sterling for his plot of land. The land grant details the exact boundaries of the territory, including the rivers and creeks that delineate its borders. A red Commonwealth of Virginia seal is affixed to the lower portion of the land grant. Please note that this item shows some wear due to aging, including weathering on the edges, and comes in three pieces. Jefferson has signed the land grant document in black pen. This historic item comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
