This is an official military commission document, dated May 17, 1878 and signed by the 19th U.S. President, Rutherford B. Hayes. His black fountain pen scripting, "RB Hayes," appears in the lower-right corner of the elaborately printed certificate, and reflects exceptional, enduring clarity. The paper relic bears an intact blue seal and exhibits routine compacting folds. President Hayes occupied the White House from 1877-81, and passed away in 1893. This document comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (Z09826).
