Although this card was noted on the holder, by PSA, as being from 1887 it must be from 1899 due to the team designation being "Bostons". The Old Judge cards that we now refer to as "N172" cards were issued over a period of several years and, as one would hope, the players depicted who changed teams can have more than one version of their card(s) so that their teams would accurately be represented. It is essential to the most thorough collectors that all of these little variations are represented in their sets. Dan Brouthers, one of the 19th Century's premier Hall of Fame players, played in Boston in 1889 and went on to lead the league with a .373 batting average that year. This 124 year old card appears to be free of any creases and has no signs of back damage, just a bit of honest wear on the corners.
