JULY 19TH AUCTION
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 7/20/2013
The “Baby Talk Series” is cataloged as H804-1B in the American Card Catalog is a specific subset of a larger body of similar issues issued between 1887-1889. This set is differentiated by appearance of a name in the lower right corner associated with the ball-playing baby pictured. These cards measure approximately 3” x 4-5/8” and were originally sold with blank backs, although some advertisers used the backs to advertise their products. Three of these graded cards have been trimmed down inside the white border to various other dimensions. Includes: SGC 20 FAIR 1.5 – 3 cards w/Little Mascot, Mull Tobin and Baby Bunting; SGC 10 POOR 1 – 2 cards w/Baby McKee and Dixie Jr.; SGC AUTHENTIC – 4 cards w/Kingdon Gould, Baby Kelly, Lord Fauntleroy and Baby Anson. The Baby Anson and Baby Kelly cards were name references to the two most well-known players of the era King Kelly and Cap Anson, and are more highly sought after. As with the other trade card lots in this auction, putting together a complete set of these scarce trade cards is extremely difficult.
