Graded GD 2 by SGC, one of just over two dozen examples holdered by that company. Hall of Famer. Luckily for collectors, Walter Johnson was at the beginning of his career and owned a losing record at the time this card was produced. (If the Ramly issue had been conceived a couple of years later – when Johnson's greatness had become evident – it seems likely that he would have been omitted from the set!) In addition to their unique design, which absolutely captivates today's collectors, T204 Ramlys are known for an odd failure to acknowledge most of the best ballplayers of the time. It's hard to imagine how Ty Cobb, Cy Young, Christy Mathewson, Nap Lajoie, Addie Joss, Ed Walsh, Sam Crawford, Rube Waddell and other period stars were left out of the 121-card release, and Walter Johnson is the series' undisputed "key" player. Johnson's also seems to be a particularly scarce entry, seldom offered in any condition. This is one of the most beautiful cards ever issued depicting the "Big Train." The item's striking black-and-white, cameo image (attributed to Carl Horner), surrounded by an ornate embossed gold-filigree border, creates a mini-masterpiece. Moderate wear can be seen on this card, which nevertheless carries an attractive aesthetic. Johnson's likeness reflects exceptionally good contrast and a problem-free appearance; the back is relatively clean and displays an ad for Ramly's Turkish Cigarettes. Pleasing Good condition.
