This 1910 Chicago Cubs 17 x 38-inch oversized pennant is an extraordinary artifact and is one of the earliest known Chicago Cubs pennants in existence. This pennant stands as one of the earliest Cubs pieces of any kind to celebrate its centennial having been waved by fans at the West Side Grounds cheering on the likes of Johnny Evers, Frank Chance, Mordecai “Three Fingers” Brown and Joe Tinker.

The details of this incredible piece have been lost to history, such questions as manufacturer and original purpose (did it fly at the stadium?), but three things are for certain--it's huge, it's original and it's as rare as rare can be. This is the first example of this pennant ever offered for sale. Stretching the tape measure to an unbelievable 38 inches from stem to stern, this mammoth felt pennant represents not only one of the largest from this era, but one the most visually appealing. In addition to its rarity and significance, it can also be said that this pennant is in exceptional condition considering its 110-year-old vintage. A few moth holes and missing the top and bottom red portion of the pole ties does not detract from this one-of-a-kind Cubs pennant that has never been offered at auction before.

A matching "twin" pennant, emblazoned with "Cubs", was sold at auction in 2007 for $1400.  This "Chicago" version was originally meant to be displayed in tandem with the Cubs variation and this is the only know surviving "Chicago" version – a must for the advanced Cubs or pennant collector.  Only the "Chicago" version pennant is included as the "Cubs" twin version is not included in this lot. Since 2007, when the twin to this pennant was sold.....pennant prices have exploded...  pennants such as this one routinely sell for 5 figures:  A 1916 Red Sox pennant sold for $48,000, a 1914 Buffeds pennant for $21,150, a 1915 Red Sox for $19,200, a 1910 Cubs for $16,800, a 1914 Chifeds for $14,400, a 1915 Phillies for $13,200, a 1921 Yankees for $11,750, a 1910 Phillies for $10,200, a 1914 Braves pennant for $12,000, a 1908 Cubs for $11,950, another 1914 Braves Pennant for $10,665.... the list goes on and on.
