Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Hall of Famer. In a vexing state of affairs, rectified by the manufacturer a year later, card collecting enthusiasts were forced to actually sift through a box of sticky treat to obtain Cracker Jack's captivating 1914 "Base Ball Players and Managers" cards. Offered here is a remarkably clean and vivid specimen of card #30 from that elusive 1914 set, portraying Detroit outfielder and period superstar Ty Cobb. It's difficult to believe that this attractive, wafer-thin paper collectible was ever forced into proximity with a perishable and blemish-inducing substance, as only small areas of faint staining can be detected on its surface. (The cardback on this exceptional Cobb example will be a special treat for veteran collectors who have become grudgingly accepting of the tell-tale discoloration that is almost always seen on this issue's beautiful collectibles). The card's incredible depth of red color is also noteworthy, as is the sharply focused image of the determined Cobb in his classic, challenging pose. The card is nicely centered, and its corners are pleasing in appearance with only light traces of natural wear. This is a very delicate and extremely challenging piece, presented at a pleasing level of preservation. Attractive Very Good to Excellent condition.
