The 1917 World Series saw the Chicago White Sox, led by the future “Black Sox” including Joe Jackson, beat the New York Giants in six games. This very scarce 1917 World Series program at New York features one of the all-time classic World Series program covers, picturing President Wilson throwing out the first ball at the opening of the American League season at Washington. The patriotic cover is especially fitting as America was at this time in the throes of World War I. The cover of this 9.25 x 11 inch program is completely detached from the pages, containing three pieces of tape on the spine. The 28-page program contains moderate wear, with the taped spine, vertical pocket fold, one small tear at the top, a few light cover creases and scratches, and light edge wear throughout. Pre-printed lineups include HOFers Eddie Collins, Ray Schalk and Red Faber, plus the names of Jim Thorpe, and Black Sox members Lefty Williams, Happy Felsch, Chick Gandil, Buck Weaver, Swede Risberg, Eddie Cicotte, Fred McMullin and Shoeless Joe Jackson. An exceptional example of this program which is especially noted for its tremendous display value and historical significance. Good overall condition.
