While not much is known of the Ty Cobb candy manufacturing and distribution practices, we do know it wasn’t long for the nickel candy world as only a handful of distribution items have surfaced over the years. Likely produced in the 1920s by the “Benjamin Candy Co. Detroit, Mich”, this box provided children with “Lots of Quality Candy for a Nickel!”, but the children found better places to spend their father’s hard-earned coins. Surviving after all these years, this scarcely seen counter candy box with the immortal “Ty Cobb” name emblazoned diagonally across the front. This larger sized box measures 7” x 9” x 2.75” and displays beautifully with bright gold, orange and blue colors. The top has one corner tear, a few stains and some light scrapes, while the bottom is fully intact with the normal dings and dents. The bottom has a pencil notation of “Wilson Bought Nov. 20, 1926” maybe shedding some additional light into the time frame of these candy bars. Despite the imperfections, this scarce box displays well in its all original eye-catching format.
