A member of the 1939 inaugural class of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, St. Louis Brown’s 1B George Sisler’s battle with chronic sinusitis in the prime of his career likely cost him a spot in the conversation with Ty Cobb and Ted Williams as the greatest hitters in MLB history. His 1922 MVP season, during which he hit a remarkable .420 and led the AL in hits, stolen bases and triples, is widely considered one of the greatest single-season performances in baseball history. It’s quite possible that this 36”, 37 oz. Hillerich & Bradsby Professional Model 126 game used bat, dated to 1921-1931 was used by Sisler but that can not be confirmed. The bat shows heavy use, particularly on the back side of the signature model’s barrel, where as many as a dozen clubhouse nails have been used to repair a series of cracks. Ball marks and stitch impressions are evident on the barrel, along with cleat imprints. This handsome, aged bat from one of baseball’s lost legends will exhibit beautifully. The bat comes with an LOA from PSA/DNA, and has been tagged by PSA/DNA hologram #1B11119.
