In the early 1920’s, George "High Pockets" Kelly was the National League’s answer to Babe Ruth, and he led the New York Giants to back to back World Championships victories over The Babe’s Yankees in 1921 and 22. In 1929 and 1930, Kelly was the first baseman for the Cincinnati Reds where he hit a nice .293 and .308, putting the finishing touches on his stat line that earned him a plaque in Cooperstown. High Pockets’ 1929-1930 Hillerich & Bradsby Pre Model bat shows heavy use with a slight handle crack. The barrel contains many ball marks with stitch impressions plus cleat imprints on the right, left and back barrel. A dark residue is present on the barrel a gripping substance in tobacco juice is on the handle which has also been scored to enhance the grip. Kelly signed his name in red on the barrel. The bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B01853) for the game use and has been given a very high grade of GU 9. There is also a STICKER ONLY from MEARS (301220) for the game use and the signature comes with a LOA from JSA (Z32583).
