Well-used and much-loved, this rich-in-character sphere possesses a singular, outstanding attribute: the widely stroked, black fountain pen signature of Babe Ruth resting in its sweet spot. Ball was game used when the Yankees split a double header with the Indians 8/4/1929. Ruth got 4 hits in the double header. Ruth's scripting beams outward from a variegated palette consisting of scuff marks, mild soiling and age-derived patina. The ball's aesthetic is that of a wholly individual, fully magical souvenir that was once grasped by the Yankees' inimitable superstar. A few faintly written characters, in ink, can be discerned on one of the ball's side panels. Comes with full LOA from JSA and MEARS. Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
