After playing second fiddle to the powerful New York Yankees in 1927 and 1928, the Philadelphia Athletics broke through in 1929, winning the American League by an astounding 18 games over the now second place Bronx Bombers. The Athletics were led by slugger Jimmie Foxx who hit .354 with 33 home runs in a breakout year for him, Al Simmons, who batted .365 with 34 home runs and an American League best 157 RBI, and Mickey Cochrane, who batted a solid .331.

Presented is this sepia toned 7 x 30 inch team photograph that has been matted and framed to a dimension of 19 x 37 inches of that dominant 1929 Philadelphia Athletics squad. This photograph features all of the players lined up along the first base line with manager Connie Mack, in a dress suit, centered between the players who are full uniform. 18 signatures have been signed under their respective images, including Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, Mickey Cochrane, Lefty Grove, Kid Gleason, Walter French, Jimmy Dykes, Jim Cronin, Max Bishop, Bevo LeBourveau, Cy Perkins, Bill Breckinridge, Bing Miller, Rube Walberg, Jack Quinn, Mule Haas, George Burns and Joe Boley. Please note that the signature of George Burns is light and a blue smudge appears over his head.

Surrounding the photograph there are 10 individual cut signatures, nine of which have been placed within the matte and one signature that has been placed on top of the matte. Clockwise from the upper left are the signatures of Howard Ehmke, Eddie Collins, Connie Mack, Homer Summa, Earle Mack, Eddie Rommel, George Burns (second signature on this piece), Bill Shores, George Earnshaw and Sammy Hale. This is a tremendous display with six Hall of Famers' signatures, with only Burns’ signature on his image having any issue and a minor tear going through the image of Joe Boley and the top part of the “J” in his signature. The 1929 Philadelphia Athletics are widely regarded as one of the greatest teams of all-time and considering their 18-game victory over a New York Yankee squad that featured Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in their primes, it’s no wonder why this team is held in such high regard. This multi-signed photograph display comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (AC03361) and JSA (Y34104).
