Uruguay’s mercurial striker Juan Anselmo was presented with this magnificent trophy after Uruguay claimed the 1930 FIFA World Cup title. Uruguay, the slight favorites to win the inaugural World Cup after claiming the 1924 and 1928 Olympic gold medals, used a balanced attack and a rock-solid defense to win the World Cup title on their home soil. Anselmo scored three goals during the tournament, grabbing Uruguay’s third in a 4-0 victory over Romania and scoring two goals during la Celeste’s 6-1 destruction of Yugoslavia in the semifinals. Despite not starting in the tournament final against Argentina, Anselmo was the second leading scorer for Uruguay in the tournament.
This offered Jules Rimet Trophy, known as “Victory” when it was presented to Jose Nasazzi. This trophy measures 13.5 inches tall and stands on an octagonal green stone base. A gold plaque is affixed to the base. It is etched with “1er. Campeonato Mundial de Foot-Ball”, “J.P. ANSELMO”, and “A.U. DE F. Montevideo Julio 1930”. “FIFA” is etched on the trophy as well. The upper portion of the trophy is a gold-colored depiction of the Greek goddess Nike. This trophy is in fantastic condition and is a tremendous relic from Uruguay’s World Cup. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
