Juan Peregrino Anselmo, a crucial member of the Uruguayan starting XI, was awarded this medal by the President of Uruguay, Juan Campisteguy, after leading la celeste to the 1930 FIFA World Cup title. Champions of the previous two Olympic soccer tournaments, the Uruguayans hosted the 1930 World Cup primarily in Montevideo’s Estadio Centenario and were able to lift the trophy in their nation’s capital with an emphatic 4-2 win over Argentina in the final match. Anselmo scored three goals in the tournament, with the longtime Penarol striker notching a brace against Yugoslavia in the semifinals.

This offered medal is rectangular and silver in color. Etched in high relief on the front is the Crest of Uruguay, as well as “Presidencia de la Republica / Juan Campisteguy / 18 de Julio 1930”. Etched in a combination of high-relief and engraving on the back is “1930 = J.P. Anselmo / 18 De Julio / Campeon = 1930”. The borders of both sides feature an ornamented design. This medal is in great condition! This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
