This stunning bronze and enamel badge commemorates the three world soccer titles won by Uruguay during the 1920’s and 1930’s. La Celeste stunned the world to win the gold medal at the 1924 Paris Summer Olympics, dispatching Switzerland with ruthless efficiency in a 3-0 final match. Uruguay returned the to the Olympic finals during the 1928 Amsterdam Games, this time facing continental rivals Argentina in the gold medal match. Uruguay won 3-2 across a two-legged final, cementing their status as a global power in the ever-expanding world of soccer. Due to their unprecedented success in the Olympics, the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo played host to the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930. Uruguay claimed their third world title of the decade in the Estadio Centenario, once again defeating Argentina to grab the title.

The badge has a diameter of approximately .75 inches, with a blue and white glove bearing the phrase “CAMPEON” serving as the centerpiece for the badge. Inscribed around the border of the pin is “Colombes 1924 / Amsterdam 1928 / Montevideo 1930”. Inscribed around the back of the pin is “Colombes 1924 / Amsterdam 1928 / Uruguay”. The pin is a screw-on, with a bronze-colored washer piece inscribed with “Intercambio Italo-Argentina”. The enamel “Campeon” globe and the bronze-colored circle inscribed with “Colombes 1924…” are two separate pieces that screw together to form the whole badge. A smaller, hexagonal washer completes the piece. This item is in good condition and is a tremendous relic from Uruguay’s era of dominance on the world stage. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
