The final match of the inaugural FIFA World Cup was held at the brand-new Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay on July 30th, 1930. The host nation Uruguay played neighbors and archrivals Argentina in the final match under the weight of expectation, having defeated Argentina in the 1928 Olympic final. Uruguay came out swinging in the final match, opening the scoring through a Pablo Dorado strike in the 12th minute. Argentina equalized eight minutes later, but a three-goal salvo from Uruguay in the second half directed La Celeste to a comfortable 4-2 win at the final whistle. Offered in this lot is a steward’s badge from the World Cup Final at El Centenario. This stunning lapel badge has “Portero” etched in high-relief on one side, while “1er CTO Mundial De Football Final” is etched on the back of the badge. An ornate semicircle adorns the top of the lapel badge. It measures approximately 5 centimeters long. This historically significant badge is a fascinating artifact from the monumental first World Cup. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
