Whitman Publishing Company's line of "Big Little Books" debuted in 1932 with the release of "The Adventures of Dick Tracy." The early editions measured 3-1/2" x 4-1/2" and were about 1-1/2" thick. While many competitors exploited the genre with similarly formatted books, Whitman outlasted them all, and was the only publisher to maintain a regular publication schedule through World War II. Today, these books appeal to a broad range of collectors. Presented here is an all-different, reading-quality group containing 52 different titles from the popular and long-running category. Subjects include: Tarzan, Buck Rogers, Charlie McCarthy, Smilin' Jack (4), Gene Autry (3), Joe Palooka (2), Popeye (2), Mickey Mouse (2), Terry and the Pirates (2), Don Winslow (3), Little Orphan Annie (2), Tom Mix (3), Ken Maynard, Tailspin Tommy (4), Lone Ranger (3), Blondie (4), Tim McCoy (3), Li'l Abner, Terry Lee, Dick Tracy (3), Alley Oop, Clyde Beatty, Scarlet O'Neil, Big Chief Wahoo (2) and Roy Rogers.
