Max Baer was one of the greatest boxers of the 20th century, a hard-punching heavyweight who claimed the World Heavyweight Championship for nearly an entire year in the mid-1930s. Baer earned the belt by knocking down the towering Italian fighter Primo Carnera, handing Carnera only his seventh professional loss. One of Baer’s most famous fights took place in 1933, when Baer, who was of Jewish descent, faced the German boxer and favorite of Adolf Hitler, Max Schmeling. Baer earned a 10th round TKO against Schmeling, in what was later named Fight of the Year 1933 by Ring Magazine, endearing him to the American Jewish community.
This picture of Baer is a 5 x 7 inch black and white photograph of Baer throwing a left handed jab. He signed the photograph in black pen, adding the inscription “To Suey / Best of luck / Sincerely / Max Baer / 1935”. This photograph comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (J35332).
