By 1938, the New York Yankees had already established themselves as the premier franchise in Major League Baseball.  With 9 American League Pennants and 6 World Series Championships since 1921, including titles in 1936 & 1937, the Yanks had evolved into a perennial Series contender.  The 1938 squad was no different, cruising to 99 regular season wins en route to a 10th AL Pennant and 7th World Series title, the first three-peat in baseball history.  One of the highlights of that 1938 season took place in the Bronx, NY on August 27, in the 2nd game of a double header with the Cleveland Indians, when Monte Pearson threw the first no-hitter in Yankee Stadium history.  Pearson was masterful in the 13-0 victory, walking 2 and striking out 7 in gaining his 13th win on the season and giving the home team a sweep of the double bill.  Tommy Henrich and Joe Gordon provided the offense for Pearson, each connecting for a pair of home runs and driving in 10 runs between them.  This Harridge Official American League baseball, game used during the no-no, has been signed by Monte Pearson, who has included the inscription “No Hit Game Aug 27, 1938 N.Y. vs. Cleveland”.  Also signing the ball are 7 members of the starting lineup that day, including Hall of Famers Lou Gehrig (1B), Joe Gordon (2B) and Joe DiMaggio (OF), along with Frankie Crosetti (SS), Red Rolfe (3B) and OF’s Tommy Henrich and George Selkirk.  Hall of Famers Bill Dickey (C) and Charles “Red” Ruffing (SP) have also signed, giving this ball an extra bit of gravitas.  All signatures are in black ink, with some exhibiting fading which results in a difficult to read auto.  The item is accompanied by an LOA from JSA. To view the box score from the game, click here.
