One of the most colorful personalities in baseball, Dizzy Dean backed up his boasting and bragging with a Hall of Fame career. The last National League player to win 30 games in a season, Dean was a force to be reckoned with at the top of the St. Louis Cardinals rotation. Dean was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1953. Offered here is a game ball used during a win in the 1939 season. This ball has been dated to the July 26th, 1939 game when he was a member of the Chicago Cubs. Dean and the Cubbies knocked off the Brooklyn Dodgers 10-2 at Wrigley Field as Dean pitched a complete game, allowing only five hits and two runs to get the victory. It was the 146th win of his career. This ball displays excellent use and has toned with age. The ball is inscribed starting on the side panel and running through the sweet spot to the other side panel “Chicago 7-26-39 Bill: Dizzy Dean beat Dodgers 10 To 2 Today.
