The 1940 New York Yankees finished third in the American League with an 88-66 record. Managed by Hall of Fame manager Joe McCarthy, the 1940 team also featured five future Hall of Famers. 26 members of that team have signed this Official William Harridge baseball. All of the signatures are in black ink, with some showing significant fading.
Signatures include: Hall of Famers Red Ruffing (signed Charles Ruffing) on the sweet spot, Lefty Gomez, Bill Dickey, and Joe Gordon; Other signatures include Red Rolfe, Johnny Murphy, Babe Dahlgren, Atley Donald, Charlie Keller, Marv Breuer, Bill Knickerbocker, Spud Chandler, Frank Crosetti, Mike Chartak, Steve Sundra, Jake Powell, Bump Hadley, Buddy Rosar, Tom Heinrich, Monte Pearson, George Selkirk, Ernie “Tiny” Bonham, Marius Russo and Arndt Jorgens (played on the 1939 team) and two others. This team signed baseball comes with its original “Reach” box (missing the top) and a full LOA from PSA/DNA (AA07695). Please note that PSA/DNA has deemed the signature of Joe DiMaggio to be a clubhouse version, a common practice in that era.
