While individual players received bats from Hillerich & Bradsby for their personal use, other ball clubs also placed orders for signature model bats of the best players in the game. Used in both games and practice, these “team index bats“ allowed players to try out different weights and models. What better model bat to have around than the model used by the great Joe DiMaggio? This un-cracked Hillerich & Bradsby D29 model bat dates to 1946 and shows heavy use. The barrel shows many ball marks and surface scuffs and there is some slight checking from repeated ball contact. Four rings of adhesive tape have been applied to the handle to enhance the grip and the model number “D29” is stamped into the knob. Deemed by MEARS to be a team index bat, the D29 weighs 34 ounces and is 35 inches in length. The bat comes with an A8 LOA from MEARS (315544) for the game use. There is also a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B12328).
