After 24 years and over 3,000 games, Ty Cobb retired from baseball in 1928 as the original all-time hit king. His 4,189 hits would remain the gold standard for batted balls until Pete Rose wrestled away his crown in 1985, and his lifetime .366 batting average still remains the highest career mark in major league history. Just 8 years after leaving the game, Cobb would be voted in as one of the 5 inaugural members of the Baseball Hall of Fame. This First National Bank of Nevada check, dated June 29, 1946, is made payable to the Fred O. Foster Co. in the amount of $57.20. The front of the check has been signed “Tyrus R. Cobb”. It has been endorsed on the back of the check stamped by the American Trust Company of San Francisco, CA. Cobb’s signature has been encapsulated by PSA/DNA, and graded as Mint 9.
